ECSA
provides services to ethnic and medically underserved
populations, regardless of ability to pay.
Often, other providers are neither prepared nor have
the cultural proficiency to provide services to treat
this population.
The
communities that ECSA serve have many needs. In
the behavioral health arena our people are underserved
(lack access) and, according to the incidence and prevalence
data, are diagnosed with major mental disorders at an
increasing rate. When our people do get to a
facility for help, often times they don't receive the
best care. The ECSA member agencies take pride
in being the exception of that. We provide
access to the point where our physical plants are
bursting at the seams and our staff carry caseloads
beyond what is commonly practiced within their
respective discipline. They do it because the
clients need services. They do it because they
take pride in doing a culturally proficient and
professional job, and because there are too few ethnic
mental health professionals to share the load with.
